core argument
Later revelation must pass the apostolic test
The Christian answer is not that God is powerless to speak. The answer is that any claimed revelation must be tested by the gospel already delivered.
Galatians 1 gives the test
Paul says a different gospel must be rejected even if an angel from heaven announces it. That rule is directly relevant to restoration claims that depend on angelic ministry and new scripture.
A later prophet cannot change the doctrine of God, Christ, church, and salvation and then ask to be accepted because the later prophet says so.
Spiritual claims must be tested
Scripture commands believers to test spirits, examine claims, and obey God. A spiritual witness is not self-authenticating.
If a testimony leads away from the apostolic doctrine of one God and the eternal Son, the testimony has failed the biblical test.
The question is not whether God can speak
Christianity does not require saying God is powerless or silent. The issue is whether a later revelation may redefine the doctrine already delivered through Christ and the apostles.
Galatians 1 makes the standard public. Even an impressive spiritual messenger is not the final authority if the message is a different gospel.
An open canon cannot authenticate itself
LDS scripture and missionary teaching ask readers to receive the Book of Mormon and restoration claim through spiritual witness. Scripture also commands testing the spirits and guarding the apostolic gospel.
A testimony may be sincere and powerful, but it cannot make a different Godhead, a different Christological framework, or a different gospel structure apostolic.
